Localities accelerating towards the finish line
After nearly 1 year of implementing administrative unit rearrangement, Hung Yen is recording strong movements in the urbanization process.
According to the province's orientation, 48 wards will be established in 2026, of which phase 1 has 35 communes eligible for upgrading, followed by 13 communes in phase 2. The goal is to increase the urbanization rate of the whole province to over 51%, creating a foundation for socio-economic development in the new period.
To achieve the criteria according to regulations, localities must invest synchronously in technical infrastructure, social infrastructure, improve the quality of public services and gradually form a modern urban appearance.
In Tan Hung commune, the locality has organized to collect people's opinions throughout the area with more than 8,300 ballots distributed to households, ensuring one ballot per household and implementing regulations correctly. Mr. Truong Quoc Tran - Chairman of Tan Hung Commune People's Committee - said that the development from commune to ward has been identified by the locality many years ago, in accordance with the province's urban development planning orientation.
According to Mr. Tran, most of the commune's area is in urban planning, so the establishment of wards is an inevitable step to expand development space, effectively exploit existing potentials and advantages. In addition, Tan Hung is also a key specialty longan production area of the province. In recent years, the locality has promoted the development of high-quality longan growing areas, built OCOP products, applied VietGAP standards, granted planting area codes and promoted trade.
When becoming a ward, brand promotion, consumption connection and investment attraction will have more advantages. This will be a driving force to improve the value of longan specialties as well as promote socio-economic development of the locality" - Mr. Tran shared.
Creating a foundation for modern urban development
Not only in the central area, many other localities are also making efforts to complete the conditions to become wards. Tien Hai is one of the typical examples. After being formed on the basis of merging 5 administrative units, the commune has an area of nearly 33km2 with more than 41,490 people living in 33 villages.
The project to establish Tien Hai ward aims to build the locality into a dynamic urban area, an industrial, commercial and service center of the region. By 2030, the locality strives to increase the average income per capita to over 120 million VND/year, reducing the poverty rate to below 1%.
The People's Council of Tien Hai commune, term II, term 2026 - 2031, held a surprise meeting and voted to approve the Resolution on the Project to establish Tien Hai ward with the absolute consensus of the delegates.
Meanwhile, Nhu Quynh commune - a locality adjacent to Hanoi Capital - is also completing procedures to become a ward in 2026. With an area of about 27km2, a population of more than 86,500 people and an average income of 170 million VND/person/year, Nhu Quynh has now exceeded many criteria according to regulations for ward-level administrative units.
According to Mr. Do Hoang Tung - Chairman of Nhu Quynh Commune People's Committee, when the criteria for becoming a ward are completed, the locality will fully meet the conditions to develop into an important industrial, service and commercial center of the region. The locality sets a goal to build a modern, smart, green and sustainable urban space by 2030; and comprehensively improve the quality of life for people.
