Regarding the accident when a local resident operating a drone to spray pesticides collided with a passerby, causing one death in My Hiep Son commune, Hon Dat district (Kien Giang), the leader of the People's Committee of Hon Dat district shared some information on the management and use of drones in the locality.
According to Mr. Dao Xuan Nha - Vice Chairman of Hon Dat District People's Committee, the incident was an unfortunate event that no one wanted. After this incident, the district inspected and directed the relevant agencies, especially the District Military Command, to direct the Military Commands of communes and towns (this activity is managed by the Commune Military Command).
Mr. Nha also commented: Drone management skills at the commune level are not yet guaranteed. Moving forward, the district proposed that the District Military Command will propose to the Provincial Military Command for more detailed guidance on management and use.
Mr. Nha also emphasized: “The application of high technology in production is being promoted, that is the general policy, but it needs to be managed more closely. Especially Hon Dat is a district with a large agricultural area in the province, so the application and use of this aircraft is very large. Relevant units need to review closely to manage more effectively, avoiding unfortunate incidents from happening.”
Previously, on the morning of November 20, Mr. B.V.T (born in 1975, permanent resident of My Hiep Son commune) was driving a motorbike on his way back from fishing. While traveling on Canal 15 in Group 9, Hiep Trung Hamlet, My Hiep Son commune, he suddenly collided with a drone piloted by M.V.L (born in 1995, permanent resident of Hiep Trung Hamlet, My Hiep Son commune).
After the collision, Mr. T was seriously injured when the drone’s propeller blades slashed his head and neck. Although he was taken to An Giang General Hospital for emergency treatment, his injuries were so severe that he died on November 21.
Immediately after the incident, the authorities of My Hiep Son commune, Hon Dat district quickly arrived at the scene to investigate the cause and handle the incident.
Hon Dat district has the largest rice area in Kien Giang province. According to the district People's Committee, as of October 2024, agricultural production in Hon Dat district continued to develop well, notably high-quality rice production accounting for 98.3%. Farmers have applied scientific and technological solutions to production, including the use of drones.
The total rice cultivation area in 2024 (including Winter-Spring crop 2023-2024; Summer-Autumn and Autumn-Winter 2024) in the whole district is 164,660 hectares, with a yield of about 6.5 tons/ha and an output of about 1 million tons.
