Overcoming landslides on national highways in Lao Cai due to floods

Lao Cai - Authorities and people are urgently repairing landslides to ensure traffic safety.

On the morning of August 28, the Road Maintenance Management Board in coordination with the Department of Construction of Lao Cai province informed: After many efforts to overcome the serious subsidence point due to major floods at Km266+200 National Highway 32 (Khau Pha Pass, Tu Le Commune, Lao Cai Province) has temporarily opened the first step for traffic.

However, due to the weak roadbed (previously, the flood swept away about 2,000m3 of rock and soil, the slope was 20m long and 6m deep), posing a potential risk of incidents, the authorities advised people to follow the traffic diversion instructions when passing through the area.

At the landslide site at Km120 National Highway 4D (ta Phin commune), the authorities mobilized 2 excavators to clear 2,000m3 of rock and soil and temporarily clear a lane for vehicles.

"As soon as we received the news of a large embankment landslide that completely blocked the road, the unit mobilized human and machinery to clear the rocks and soil on National Highway 4D. The road has now been cleared to ensure travel for people and vehicles," informed the leader of the Lao Cai Provincial Road Maintenance Management Board.

In particular, landslides on National Highway 32 (through Khau Pha Pass) causing traffic congestion from Nghia Lo to Mu Cang Chai, Than Uyen (Lai Chau) are being investigated by the authorities.
