Khanh Hoa - Functional agencies deploy a peak period of collecting DNA biological samples of relatives of martyrs whose information has not been identified.

In July 2026, functional agencies of Khanh Hoa province will deploy a peak period of collecting DNA biological samples of relatives of unidentified martyrs.

According to Mr. Nguyen Long Bien - Standing Vice Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee, the peak period aims to review, verify, and update information on martyrs and relatives of martyrs who have not been identified into the National Population Database System.

This is to serve the collection of DNA biological samples, ensuring accurate data, the right people, the right subjects and achieving the set targets.

Functional agencies will organize the collection of biological samples, transportation, and analysis of DNA information of relatives of martyrs whose information has not been identified and update DNA data to the ID Database according to the correct procedures.

Khanh Hoa strives to collect DNA biological samples for 2,648 out of a total of 3,783 relatives of martyrs who have been surveyed, reaching a rate of 70% of relatives eligible to collect samples that have been updated on the system.

The collection is carried out to the maximum for 2 relatives of each martyr.

According to the plan, the collection of DNA biological samples is prioritized according to kinship.

For male martyrs, the priority order includes: Biological mother; biological grandmother; brother, sister, younger sibling of the same mother; uncle, uncle, aunt who are biological brothers, sisters, younger siblings of the mother; brother, sister or child of the mother's biological sister, younger sister; child of the martyr's biological sister or younger sister.

For female martyrs, the priority order includes: Biological mother; biological child; grandchild; brother, sister, younger brother with the same mother; child of the martyr's older sister, younger sister; brother, sister or child of the martyr's biological mother's older sister, younger sister.

Along with the work of collecting DNA samples, the Military Command of Khanh Hoa province is searching for witnesses and calling for information about martyrs who sacrificed at Thanh Dien Khanh Prison before 1975.

According to the Provincial Military Command, through historical documents and initial information sources, in the area of Dien Khanh Citadel Prison (now within the campus of Dien Khanh Commune Police headquarters), there is a possibility of 2 to 3 mass graves, which are places where many officers and soldiers who sacrificed during the enemy's detention are buried.

The Team for Searching and Repatriating Martyrs' Remains under the Military Command of Khanh Hoa province calls on veterans, veteran revolutionary cadres, historical witnesses and people who used to live and work in the Dien Khanh Prison area before 1975 to actively provide information.
