Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee has just issued a document requesting departments, branches, and localities to coordinate in implementing a peak period of collecting DNA biological samples for relatives of martyrs whose identities have not been identified.
According to the plan, the sample collection phase is expected to take place from July 13-17, 2026. There are 3,434 surviving maternal relatives of unidentified martyrs who are subject to sample collection.
Sampling is organized at 4 locations in the province including Yen Bai Ward People's Committee; Lao Cai Ward People's Committee; Nghia Lo Ward People's Committee and Khanh Hoa Commune People's Committee.
Lao Cai Provincial Police are assigned to preside over and coordinate with departments, branches, and localities to deploy the peak period, ensuring the right subjects, progress, safety and efficiency.

The police force also reviewed and updated information on martyrs' relatives on the National Population Database; propagated and mobilized families to participate in sampling and ensure security and order at deployment points.
The health sector arranges personnel, equipment, and is ready to provide medical support at sampling points. Relevant units continue to review information about martyrs, relatives and beneficiaries to serve data comparison.
Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee also requested communes and wards to fully announce the schedule to relatives of martyrs, prepare locations and arrange support forces throughout the sample collection process.
The construction of a DNA data bank of martyr's relatives is of special significance in the work of comparing and identifying martyrs' remains, contributing to realizing the desire to find the names of those who sacrificed and bring information about martyrs back to their families.
