From noon on July 12, prolonged heavy rain in Bao Lam 3 commune (Lam Dong) caused National Highway 55, the section passing through hamlet 9, to be deeply flooded from 0.5 - 0.7m for many hours.
Recorded at the scene, the flooded road section stretched more than 200m, the water rose high, making it impossible for vehicles to circulate, and traffic on the route was locally congested in both directions.
Many cars, including trucks, trying to travel through the deeply flooded area stalled. Water also flooded into the houses of dozens of households living along both sides of National Highway 55.

Immediately after the flood occurred, Bao Lam 3 Commune People's Committee mobilized police and military forces to the scene to erect warning signs, regulate traffic and guide vehicles to circulate along people's roads to avoid congestion.
Mr. Hong Viet Trung - Chairman of Bao Lam 3 Commune People's Committee - said that the locality also mobilized excavators to clear the flow in the flooded area and support people to move property to safe places to limit damage.

According to Ms. Do Tran Kim Phuong, a resident living near the flooded area, this is a low point, so when it rains heavily, water from many directions rushes in.
Meanwhile, the drainage system is small, silted up by mud, so it is not drainageable in time, leading to localized flooding.

Only from the end of May to now, this area has been deeply flooded at least 3 times. Each time it is flooded, traffic is blocked, water floods into people's houses causing many difficulties. Functional agencies need to soon clear the drainage system to limit this situation during the rainy season," Ms. Phuong reflected.
Local people reflect that in previous years, this area rarely experienced deep flooding.
However, since the project to repair and upgrade National Highway 55 was implemented, construction has affected the drainage system.

Therefore, every time heavy rain lasts, the road is flooded, causing difficulties for travel and affecting people's lives.
