According to Hung Yen Provincial Police, at about 10:15 p.m. on August 28, while performing the task of patrolling and controlling traffic on National Highway 39, when reaching Km18+600 in Truong Xa village, Nghia Dan commune, Hung Yen province, the Working Group of Road Traffic Police Team No. 2, Traffic Police Department discovered a red-faced monkey running into a house.
Realizing that the monkey was aggressive and could endanger the people, the working group coordinated with the Nghia Dan Commune Police and the people to conduct a safe capture. After that, the monkey was handed over to the Forest Protection Department, Department of Agriculture and Environment of Hung Yen province for care and to carry out the procedures for release back into the natural environment according to regulations.
Through inspection, the Forest Protection Department determined that this individual was a red-faced monkey, scientific name Macaca arctoides, male, weighing about 4.5 kg. This is a species listed in Section 62, Monkey Ministry (Primates), belonging to Group IIB in the list of endangered, precious, and rare forest animals according to Appendix I attached to Decree No. 84/2021/ND-CP dated September 22, 2021 of the Government.
In the context of many rare wildlife species facing the risk of extinction due to illegal hunting and trading, the timely detection and handling of red-faced monkey in Hung Yen is of great significance in biodiversity conservation and strict enforcement of forestry laws. This is also a reminder for the community to raise awareness, join hands to protect wild animals - the country's invaluable natural resources.
