On August 31, Vo Thi Ngoc Ngan (commonly known as Ngan 98) attracted attention on social media when she posted a video recording a photo shoot at Hanoi Cathedral. In the video, the female DJ wore a red Vietnamese outfit with elaborate makeup but was asked to leave by some people.
According to the content of the sharing, these people think that Ngan 98's front end violated the "no hat wearing" regulation stated on the notice board placed in front of the church gate. A man determined not to let her continue taking photos, and had harsh words.
Ngan 98 expressed her frustration, saying that she went from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi with the desire to take a meaningful photo series but was "unexpectedly chased straight away". On her personal page, Ngan said that she felt very hurt when standing in front of dozens of cameras recording the moment she was scratched "by opening her eyes wide".
On the afternoon of August 31, a representative of the People's Committee of Hoan Kiem Ward, Hanoi City said that they had grasped the information, assigned the ward police to verify and will have a specific response. The government also clarified whether people had acted inappropriately when preventing photos in front of the Cathedral.
According to the regulations outside the church, visitors should note: do not wear short dresses, shorts, t-shirts, or three-song shirts; do not wear hats, do not smoke, do not eat; do not use flashlights or phones when going inside and keep quiet.
