On December 27, the Center for Rescue, Conservation and Development of Organisms of Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park said that the unit had just received a rare golden monkey handed over by people for rescue, care and recovery.
Previously, at the headquarters of Hoan Lao Commune People's Committee, the Center received 1 golden monkey (Macaca mulatta) handed over by Hoan Lao Commune People's Committee, in the presence of representatives of Bo Trach Forest Protection Department.
The golden monkey was discovered by Mr. Le Thanh Hung, residing in residential group 5, Hoan Lao commune, when he was lost in his garden. After discovering it, Mr. Hung temporarily kept and cared for the monkey and proactively reported to functional agencies for guidance on handing it over in accordance with legal regulations.
At the time of receipt, the golden monkey was a male, weighing about 6kg, in a state of weakness. Veterinarians at the Center conducted an initial health check and put the individual into a quarantine area for monitoring, care and recovery.
According to the Center for Restoration, Conservation and Development of Organisms, golden monkey individuals will continue to be raised and trained to adapt in semi-wild environments. When they meet the conditions for health and adaptability, the unit will develop a plan to re-release them to a suitable natural environment.
According to Decree No. 84/2021/ND-CP of the Government, the golden monkey (Macaca mulatta) belongs to Appendix IIB, a group of endangered, precious, and rare species, restricted from exploitation and use for commercial purposes.
