On May 18, Nghe An province held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Vinh - Thanh Thuy expressway construction investment project.
Attending the groundbreaking ceremony were Comrade Doan Minh Huan - Member of the Politburo, Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics; Comrade Le Tien Chau - Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister; along with leaders and former leaders of the Party, State, National Assembly, Government, Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, leaders of Nghe An and Quang Tri provinces.

The Vinh - Thanh Thuy expressway construction investment project was approved for investment policy by the 15th National Assembly in Resolution No. 255/2025/QH15 dated December 11, 2025.
This is a transport infrastructure project of particular importance to Nghe An province, the North Central region and the East-West economic corridor between Vietnam and Laos.
The Vinh - Thanh Thuy expressway is an important component in the overall Hanoi - Vientiane expressway; and is directly connected to the North - South expressway in the East, Ho Chi Minh Road and the national transport infrastructure system.
After completion, the project will contribute to expanding development space, strengthening regional linkages, promoting trade, tourism, logistics, attracting investment; improving the competitiveness of localities and regions. The project also contributes to ensuring national defense, security and consolidating the special friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.
The Vinh - Thanh Thuy expressway project is about 60km long, passing through 9 communes of Nghe An province. The road is invested with a scale of 4 complete lanes, site clearance according to a scale of 6 lanes, total investment of about 23,940 billion VND.
Immediately after the National Assembly approved the investment policy, Nghe An province focused on implementing investment preparation tasks, site clearance, resettlement and related procedures to ensure sufficient conditions for project commencement according to the plan.
The Nghe An Provincial Party Committee has established a Steering Committee for key projects and works headed by the Provincial Party Secretary; mobilized the synchronous involvement of the entire political system. Agencies, units, and localities have coordinated to remove difficulties and handle arising problems, especially in site clearance, resettlement, and preparing technical conditions for construction.
Leaders of Nghe An province said that the groundbreaking ceremony is an important milestone, opening the process of implementing strategic infrastructure projects for the development of Nghe An province and the North Central region.
