On May 9, Nam Gianh Commune People's Committee, Quang Tri province said that recently in the area, a herd of civets has appeared to forage in the fields after harvest.
According to records, hundreds of storks often appear in the early morning and late afternoon in rice fields and swamps. The storks sometimes descend into the fields to find food, sometimes writhing in large groups in the sky, creating a beautiful scene in the countryside.

The main food of this stork species is golden snails, grasshoppers, worms and many types of insects in the fields. After foraging, in the late afternoon, the stork flock often fly back to nest in the melaleuca forest areas around the fields.
Initial identification, this is a crane, local people also call it snail crane, with the scientific name Anastomus oscitans. This crane species usually lives in wetlands and is named in the Vietnam Red Book.
Mr. Nguyen Van Lam, Head of Quang Trach District Forest Protection Department, said that immediately after discovering the precious stork herd appearing in the area, the unit coordinated with local authorities to propagate and recommend people to raise awareness of wildlife protection; absolutely do not hunt, trap, chase away or affect the living environment of the stork herd.
It is known that in the past time, in many localities in Quang Tri province, crane herds have appeared to forage in the fields and live in forest areas. Thanks to good propaganda and mobilization, people do not drive away or hunt, so the herd of crane returns more, contributing to preserving the natural ecosystem and biodiversity in the locality.
