On October 24, the People's Committee of Khanh Hoa province directed the implementation of key tasks to combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing and prepare to work with the 5th European Committee (EC) inspection delegation.
Currently, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development presides over and coordinates with departments, branches, units, and localities to advise and propose contents under the authority and responsibility of the Provincial People's Committee in accordance with regulations; synthesizes the contents implemented by the units to report to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (through the Department of Fisheries), and at the same time report to the Provincial People's Committee.
According to the report of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, as of October 11, 2024, the whole province had 642/645 fishing boats installed with journey monitoring equipment (reaching 99.5%).
Dissemination of regulations on IUU fishing is organized regularly, in many forms, to each ship owner/captain and fisherman.
Khanh Hoa province has also deployed the Electronic Traceability Software System for Fishing Vessels to control fishing vessels entering and leaving ports, collect and submit fishing logs, monitor the volume of seafood unloaded through ports, issue receipts, raw material certificates and certificates of origin of exploited seafood according to regulations; review, compile statistics and guide localities to manage "3 No" fishing vessels in the province according to the guidance of the Ministry of Agriculture.
In particular, the agricultural sector is still strictly controlling fishing vessels entering and leaving ports and controlling output at the fisheries inspection and control offices located at ports in the province; resolutely not handling departures and administrative procedures (issuing fishing licenses) for fishing vessels that do not meet IUU regulations...
On October 10, the Party Committee of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development issued a document requesting coastal local leaders to direct the implementation of a number of contents on fishing vessel management; on tracing the origin of exploited aquatic products; requesting to thoroughly handle and review the records of handling violations against the swordfish shipment of T&H Nha Trang Company Limited and Thinh Hung Company Limited at fishing ports, enterprises and seafood branches of Khanh Hoa, Binh Dinh, Ba Ria - Vung Tau provinces and related localities.
The Ministry also requested localities to consolidate records to thoroughly handle cases of fishing vessels removing and sending VMS devices discovered locally; strengthen inspection, review of inspection records, control of fishing vessels entering and leaving ports and in sea areas to strictly handle cases of fishing vessels violating illegal fishing...
