On September 4, Vice Chairman of Kon Tum Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Ngoc Sam signed a decision approving an urgent public investment project for the project to overcome landslides on Dak Snghe River, Kon Ray District.
Every year during the rainy and stormy season, the Dak Snghe River rises, washing away productive land and crops of people on both banks, causing property damage.
The most serious landslides were in the residential area of Dak Ruong commune, Kon Brai bridge abutment, the traffic route connecting National Highway 24 to Kon Skoi village and the riverbank near the Kon Ray district administrative center...
Mr. Ksor Hin, resident of Kon Skoi village, Dak Ruong commune, said: “The river carries many large and small floods such as: Thuong Kon Tum, Dak Po Ne, Dak Lo, Dak Re… In the dry season, the hydroelectric dam blocks the flow, causing the river to dry up, exposing rocks and gravel, and many sections where people can walk. In the flood season, the hydroelectric dam simultaneously releases floodwaters, causing the water to become ferocious, threatening to wipe out the downstream area.”
To limit landslides and protect traffic infrastructure, Kon Tum Provincial People's Committee decided to allocate capital to build embankments to prevent land loss and protect people's lives.
The project is funded by the Central Government in 2023 to overcome the consequences of natural disasters and landslides in the province. According to the approval decision, the embankment project has a total investment of 130 billion VND, with a construction length of 1,183m, to be implemented in 2024.
Vice Chairman of Kon Tum Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Ngoc Sam requested the Department of Planning and Investment and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to be responsible for the appraisal results and submit for approval the urgent public investment project for the Dak Snghe river embankment project.
Kon Tum province requires investors, construction units, and supervisors of emergency projects to evaluate and calculate reasonably and accurately the volume and unit price to ensure savings, efficiency, and absolutely no waste.
At the same time, units involved in the river embankment project must take full responsibility before the law and the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee for their implementation results if there are any violations that cause loss of the state budget.
