On May 30, information from functional agencies of Quang Tri province said that the unit has received and is taking care of a salamander individual voluntarily handed over by people for handling in accordance with the law.
Previously, at about 5:30 pm on May 29, on the way home from work, Mr. Pham Van Phuong (residing in Huu Hoa village, Trieu Binh commune, Quang Tri province) suddenly discovered a net bag lying right in the middle of the road, inside containing a large monitor lizard.
Realizing that this is a dangerous and rare wild animal, Mr. Phuong protected this individual and proactively brought it to the Quang Tri Ward Police headquarters to report and hand it over, hoping that the animal would be safely rescued.
Immediately after receiving it from the people, Quang Tri Ward Police immediately contacted and handed over this wild animal to the local forest ranger agency for care and health monitoring before releasing it back to its natural environment.
According to verification from the forest ranger agency, the above animal individual is a rhino horn, weighing 1.7kg. This is a wild animal belonging to group IB, a list of endangered, precious, and rare species that are prioritized for strict protection according to Vietnamese law.
