On May 19, Trieu Binh Commune People's Committee confirmed that it had coordinated with Trieu Phong Forest Protection Department - Quang Tri to hand over 1 rare salamander individual to the Center for Rescue, Conservation and Development of Organisms under Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park.
Previously, Mr. Bui Huu Nhat (residing in Ha My village, Trieu Binh commune) while working in the fields discovered and caught this animal individual. Realizing that this is a rare and precious wild animal that needs to be prioritized for protection, Mr. Nhat voluntarily handed it over to the local government and forest rangers.
After receiving it, the Trieu Binh Commune People's Committee coordinated with functional forces to make a record and notify the owner to verify according to regulations before handing over the animal to the Rescue Center for care during the waiting time for handling.

Through testing, the animal individual was identified as a salamander, scientific name Varanus nebulosus, weighing about 2kg, about 70cm long.
The iguana is an animal belonging to group IB - a group strictly prohibited from exploitation and use for commercial purposes in the list of endangered, precious and rare forest animals prioritized for protection.
The voluntary handover of rare and precious wild animals by people shows a positive awareness in wildlife protection, contributing to raising community awareness about biodiversity conservation and natural environment protection.
