On July 19, Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee said that Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Trong Yen agreed on the policy of shortening the term of Village Heads and Residential Group Leaders in villages and residential groups that do not implement arrangement.
This is to synchronize the 2026 - 2031 term of the team of Village Heads and Residential Group Leaders who have completed the arrangement.
Previously, the Department of Home Affairs had a submission proposing the Provincial People's Committee to consider the above policy. According to the Department of Home Affairs, communes, wards and special zones in the province have completed the arrangement of villages and residential groups and are organizing the election of Village Heads and Residential Group Leaders for the term 2026 - 2031 in new units.
Meanwhile, some villages and residential groups maintain the status quo and Village Heads and Residential Group Leaders continue to implement according to the old term, leading to inconsistencies in the term end time.
Many localities have proposed to the Provincial People's Committee to consider allowing shortening the term of office for Village Heads and Neighborhood Group Leaders in areas not arranged to organize elections at the same time as units after arrangement throughout the province.
Based on the proposal of the Department of Home Affairs, the Provincial People's Committee agreed with the above policy. At the same time, assigning the People's Committees of communes, wards and special zones to organize the election of Village Heads and Residential Group Leaders in accordance with regulations, ensuring uniformity in terms of term throughout the province.
