Lam Dong tightens management of animal slaughtering activities

Lam Dong - The Provincial People's Committee requests departments, branches, and localities to strengthen the management of animal slaughtering activities, ensure food safety, and prevent epidemics.

On July 16, the Office of the People's Committee of Lam Dong province said that the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee has just issued a document directing to strengthen the management of animal slaughtering activities, slaughtering control, veterinary hygiene and food safety, towards building a centralized and modern slaughtering facility system.

Accordingly, the Department of Agriculture and Environment is assigned to review and evaluate the entire slaughterhouse system; strengthen inspection and examination; monitor epidemics, take samples to test for banned substances, antibiotic residues and food safety at livestock and slaughterhouses.

The Department of Finance advises on mechanisms to encourage businesses to invest in centralized slaughterhouses; the Department of Construction arranges land funds; the Department of Industry and Trade strengthens inspections at markets, supermarkets, and commercial centers to detect and handle animal products of unknown origin or unquarantined.

The Department of Health promotes food safety supervision; the Department of Science and Technology researches the application of digital technology and QR codes to trace the origin of animal products.

The Provincial People's Committee also requested the Provincial Police to strengthen the detection and strict handling of acts of transporting, trading, and slaughtering animals against regulations; using fake quarantine certificates; bringing unsafe food products to the market and handling illegal slaughterhouses.

People's Committees of communes, wards and Phu Quy Special Zone are responsible for managing slaughtering activities in the area; reviewing slaughtering facilities, developing roadmaps to eliminate spontaneous slaughtering points; arranging veterinary personnel and propagating people to bring livestock and poultry to slaughter at eligible facilities.

According to the Provincial People's Committee, the synchronous implementation of solutions aims to control epidemics, ensure food safety, protect public health and promote the development of the livestock industry in a modern and sustainable direction. Units are required to urgently implement and promptly report difficulties and obstacles for handling.
