The 2026 spring military recruitment has ended. According to Decree No. 998 of the President of the Russian Federation issued on December 29, 2025, 141,000 citizens have been called to perform military service in the spring military recruitment," the Russian Ministry of Defense said in a statement quoted by TASS.
According to Russian regulations, the spring recruitment is held annually to supplement troops for the armed forces. Citizens of military service age will be summoned according to the provisions of law after completing health check-up and recruitment procedures.
TASS did not say whether this year's recruitment number has changed compared to the initial plan or previous recruitment rounds.
The announcement of the Russian Ministry of Defense also did not specify the units receiving these new recruits or their service time.
In recent years, Russia has maintained periodic recruitment phases in parallel with professional military personnel to ensure troop numbers for the armed forces. The Russian government has repeatedly affirmed that military service forces are deployed in accordance with current law.
The 2026 spring military recruitment takes place in the context of Russia continuing to maintain military activities and strengthen defense capabilities. However, in the announcement on July 15, the Russian Ministry of Defense only announced the number of enlisted citizens and did not mention the specific tasks or deployment locations of new recruits after completing the training process.
