On November 25, the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Lam Dong province announced statistics on child drowning prevention in 2024. Thereby, this unit recorded 30 children who died from drowning.
Cases are mainly concentrated between 6 and 9 years old, mostly boys, and occur in community areas such as ponds, lakes, rivers, streams, etc.
The local government has promptly supported the victims’ families. The provincial Children’s Fund has supported 2 million VND for 15 children in difficult circumstances. Localities have also supported each family with 18 million VND.
According to the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, drowning prevention work still has many limitations. Dangerous areas such as ponds, lakes, and public works still lack barriers or warning signs.
The program of teaching safe swimming and preventing drowning has not been implemented synchronously, and child protection skills are still limited in both families and communities.
Faced with the above situation, authorities in Lam Dong have called for increased propaganda, investment of resources for child drowning prevention and implementation of more effective safety measures in the coming time.
