Lang Son - The National Assembly's working delegation proposed that the province continue to review the entire food supply chain, increase post-inspection and traceability.

In the afternoon of April 14, a working delegation led by Ms. Nguyen Thanh Hai, Chairwoman of the National Assembly's Committee for Science, Technology and Environment, worked with the People's Committee of Lang Son province on the implementation of policies and laws in controlling food safety according to the supply chain in the area.

At the working session, the working delegation and representatives of departments and branches of the province exchanged views on the implementation of the Food Safety Law, propaganda, inspection, and supervision at border gates, schools, people's markets, food business establishments, as well as testing and post-inspection activities of goods circulating in the market.

According to a report by the People's Committee of Lang Son province, in recent years, the inter-sectoral Steering Committee for Food Safety and Hygiene of the province has coordinated with media agencies to promote propaganda, focusing on preventing food poisoning, in order to change the behavior of high-risk groups.

Functional agencies are also strengthening inspection, supervision, and early warning of food safety risks for the community; issuing many directives and guidelines on food poisoning prevention and foodborne diseases.

Thanks to that, in the two years 2024 and 2025, there were no cases related to food poisoning in the province.

The whole province currently has 8,546 food establishments. Among these, the rate of establishments eligible for food safety certificates reached 97.6%.

Supply chain management is also emphasized, with 19 livestock farms and 1,200 hectares of cultivated land applying safe production processes.

In the period 2024-2025, functional forces inspected 13,401 establishments, discovered 3,380 violating establishments and fined 3,127 establishments, with a total amount of more than 10.6 billion VND. More than 68,000 unsafe food products were recalled and destroyed.

The Provincial Police discovered and handled 69 violations in the field of food safety, including prosecuting 3 cases with 4 defendants.

Speaking at the working session, Ms. Nguyen Thanh Hai acknowledged the results Lang Son has achieved in ensuring food safety.

She proposed that the province continue to study and issue a resolution on food safety; organize a general review of the fresh food chain; pay attention to investing human resources and resources to ensure food safety quality, especially in the border gate area.

The head of the working delegation also proposed that localities increase the social supervisory role over food safety, and at the same time improve the capacity to test and trace food origin.

According to her, the issues raised from local practice will be an important basis for the Committee for Science, Technology and Environment to report to the National Assembly Standing Committee in the process of researching, appraising, and amending the Food Safety Law in a more transparent direction, putting people's health at the center.

Accepting the opinions of the working delegation, Chairman of Lang Son Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Canh Toan requested departments and branches to review and overcome limitations, continue to advise on perfecting the food safety management system in a synchronous direction; strengthen post-inspection, tighten the responsibility of organizations and individuals and improve the effectiveness of market control.

On the same morning, the working delegation divided into 4 groups to conduct field surveys at Huu Nghi, Tan Thanh, Chi Ma, Coc Nam border gates, along with some people's markets, supermarkets, schools and food business establishments in the area.
