According to the document sent to the Quang Ngai Maritime Port Authority and the Investigation Police Agency of Quang Ngai Provincial Police, on May 12, the Investigation Police Agency of Quang Ngai Provincial Police issued an official dispatch requesting the salvage of the vehicle in distress in the Quang Ngai sea area (trailers and excavators).
Based on the request of the Investigation Police Agency, the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province requested the Quang Ngai Maritime Port Authority to preside over and coordinate with relevant units to urgently urge owners of salvage vessels and units to speed up the salvage progress of LA-06695 towing vessels and excavators to serve the investigation of the case.

The port salvage process is carried out in accordance with the provisions of law; promptly handled according to regulations for salvage units and vehicle owners; proactively coordinated with the investigation agency during the implementation process.
As reported by Lao Dong Newspaper, at around 4:00 a.m. on April 24, 2024, the LA-06695 towing ship pulling the LA-06883 barge was traveling from Ky Ha (Quang Nam) to Ly Son island district (Quang Ngai), on its way to the sea area, about 3 nautical miles from Ly Son island, when the incident occurred. The sunken tug and barge killed 4 people (bodies and identities have been found), 5 people registered in the list of crew members currently missing upon departure.
Surprisingly, among the 4 bodies found and whose identities were confirmed, none of the victims were on the list of 5 crew members as registered at departure.
