Lao Cai still has 22 people missing due to floods

Đinh Đại |

As of 11am on September 19, floods in Lao Cai have killed 128 people, and authorities are currently searching for 22 missing victims.

Bao Yen is the locality most severely affected by storm No. 3 with 68 dead, 13 missing and 30 injured.

The landslide in Lang Nu village, Phuc Khanh commune alone left 66 people dead and missing.

Currently, forces are still trying to search for missing victims, however, the large amount of buried earth and rock, the large and dangerous area, and the incident lasting over 7 days (from September 10) have made it very difficult.

According to the Lao Cai Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue, 8,025 houses in the province have been flooded, eroded, or swept away by floods. Currently, 23 villages/11 communes have not been able to operate normally due to landslides causing traffic jams.

In addition, 2 locations on National Highways, 8 provincial roads and 29 roads managed by districts and communes are congested and cannot be used.

Storm No. 3's circulation damaged and disrupted more than 300 irrigation works and about 170 domestic water supply works.

Currently, the weather situation is complicated, with rain in some areas. Worryingly, after the flood caused by the circulation of storm No. 3 in the districts, towns and cities, many new landslides have appeared, affecting many households.
