The natural disaster killed 6 people, injured 9 people (due to landslides), affected and damaged 50 houses, and affected and damaged over 248 hectares of agricultural production area in Van Ban, Bao Thang, and Bao Yen districts.
In addition, many national and provincial highways were eroded; some irrigation works were damaged.
Initial preliminary damage estimate is over 7 billion VND.
Faced with the above situation, the Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee requested districts and towns to continue to closely monitor weather forecasts to have plans and response measures to minimize damage caused by natural disasters.
Organize a review of households living in areas at risk of being affected by landslides, flash floods, and flash floods to have timely evacuation plans.
Coordinate with the Departments of Industry and Trade, Agriculture and Rural Development to direct owners of dams, hydroelectric and irrigation reservoirs to inspect dams, handle key areas of dams; operate reservoirs and discharge floods according to procedures; promptly inform local authorities and people before releasing floods to ensure safety for downstream works and residential areas.
For the People's Committee of Sa Pa town, urgently mobilize forces to organize search, response and overcome the consequences of natural disasters and ensure security and order in the damaged areas. Arrange accommodation for individuals and households that have to evacuate and move.
Organize patrol forces and post warning signs at underground overflow locations at high risk of flooding, flash floods, etc. to guide people and vehicles to ensure safety.
For departments, branches and sectors in Lao Cai, direct affiliated agencies to review plans to ensure dam safety, plans to prevent flash floods and landslides... Be ready to mobilize forces and means to respond promptly to ensure traffic in all situations.
Coordinate with units to arrange forces to control, guide, and divert traffic, and place warning signs at locations at risk of landslides so that people participating in traffic can proactively prevent and avoid them.
