Lao Cai detonates 340kg M117 bomb left over from the war

    Lao Cai - After zoning and ensuring the safety of the scene, the engineering force organized the transportation and successful detonation of the 340kg M117 bomb.

    On July 22, the Lao Cai Provincial Military Command directed the engineering force to coordinate with relevant units to organize the transportation and safe detonation of an M117 bomb left over from the war, discovered in the area.

    Previously, during the construction of a rural road in Hong Bun village, Bao Ha commune, people discovered an object suspected of being a bomb and quickly reported it to the local authorities and military agencies.

    Immediately after receiving the information, the Lao Cai Provincial Military Command sent engineering forces and the Military Command of Bao Ha commune to the scene to inspect and assess the level of danger.

    Through verification, functional forces determined that this was an M117 bomb left over from the anti-American resistance war period, weighing about 340kg, containing about 175kg of explosives, about 40cm in diameter, 1.2m long.

    This is a type of bomb with great destructive power, posing a potential risk of unsafety if not handled in time.

    To ensure safety for people, functional forces quickly cordoned off dangerous areas, arranged 24/24 hour guards, and at the same time propagated and guided people not to approach the scene.

    After developing a technical plan and completing the conditions to ensure safety, the Provincial Military Command directed the engineering force to transport the bomb to the concentrated detonation area at Warehouse K10, Xuan Quang commune.

    The process of dismantling, moving and transporting the bomb was carried out strictly according to technical procedures, under the close supervision of specialized forces to ensure absolute safety.

    By 11:20 am on the same day, the bomb was successfully detonated by remote detonation. The detonation took place safely, without affecting people and surrounding areas.

    The timely detection and handling of the bomb contributes to eliminating the risk of unsafety and protecting people's lives and property.
