On May 11, the NPA/RENEW Project said that the unit had successfully detonated a 340 kg M117 bomb discovered near the railway line through Quang Tri province.
Previously, during the repair of the railway bridge about 1.6 km from Sa Lung station, Vinh Thuy commune, Quang Tri province, workers discovered an explosive object lying about 30 cm above the ground and 5 m from the railway tracks.
After discovering the incident, the workers reported it to the Military Command of Vinh Thuy commune for inspection and handling.

Receiving information through the hotline of the Quang Tri Provincial Bomb and Mine Action Center, the Mobile Bomb and Mine Destruction Team of the NPA/RENEW Project was present at the scene to survey.
Through inspection, functional forces determined that this was an M117 bomb thrown from a US aircraft during the war, with a total weight of 340 kg.
At the time of discovery, the fuse of the bomb's nose had broken, and the fuse of the tail had been oxidized.
After confirming that the bomb was safe to move, the mobile bomb and mine destruction team carefully brought the bomb to the NPA/RENEW centralized detonation site in Hoi Yen village, Vinh Dinh commune, Quang Tri province.
Here, functional forces prepared a detonation pit and carefully reinforced it with 1,500 sandbags. The M117 bomb was then safely detonated.
