In the first days of July, due to the impact of prolonged heavy rain, many localities in Lao Cai province recorded flooding and landslides, causing damage to property, crops and traffic infrastructure.
In Au Lau ward, heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms occurred at the beginning of July, causing floodwaters from Ngoi Lau stream to rise, flooding 34 houses, many of which were deeply flooded up to 1.5m.
Floods also caused about 8 hectares of agricultural production area to be flooded, a low-voltage power pole, a green tree to be knocked down and 39 poultry to be damaged. The total estimated damage is about 50 million VND.

Immediately after the natural disaster occurred, the locality mobilized more than 60 officials, shock forces and militia to support people to relocate property, clean up houses, and handle flooding points. Up to now, the water has receded, and households are gradually stabilizing their lives.
In Quy Mong commune, heavy rain caused 3 households to have water overflowing into their houses, 16ha of rice and crops were flooded, and 11 points on inter-village roads were landslides.
The commune government has mobilized local forces to clear congestion points, level soil and rocks, ensure traffic and support people to overcome damage. At the same time, maintain 24/24 hour duty, regularly update weather developments to proactively respond.


In Lam Thuong commune, prolonged rain from the end of June to the beginning of July damaged many traffic routes. Many locations showed landslides, road surface cracks, damaged barriers, drainage culverts and road subsidence.
After actual inspection, commune leaders directed units to urgently reinforce key locations, repair damaged road sections, and at the same time study and supplement drainage systems in frequently affected areas.
The locality also continues to mobilize households living in high-risk areas to proactively relocate to safe places.
In Khanh Hoa commune, people in Lang Dung village have worked together to clear soil and rocks, reinforce embankments, drive piles, clear sewers and repair landslide road sections.
The joint efforts of the people help many roads to quickly be cleared, serving travel and production needs.


Meanwhile, on the night of July 7 and early morning of July 8, Muong Khuong commune continued to record very heavy rain, water from streams rose, causing localized flooding on some roads and affecting crop area.
Heavy rain also caused landslides on many inter-field roads in Sa Ho and Sao Co Sin villages...
According to initial statistics, heavy rain caused damage of about 412 million VND, with no casualties.
In the afternoon of July 8, in an exchange with Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Hong Hung - Chairman of Muong Khuong Commune People's Committee said that the locality regularly updates weather developments, reviews areas at risk of landslides and flooding to promptly warn and support people.
At the same time, local forces are mobilized to overcome landslide points, clear traffic and guide people to proactively protect people and property to minimize damage if heavy rain continues to occur.


Local authorities have placed warning signs, mobilized vehicles to overcome landslide points and advised people not to pass through fast-flowing water areas, and to proactively move when there are signs of unsafety.
For agricultural production households, the locality recommends clearing the flow and timely drainage to minimize damage to crops.
