On the afternoon of July 11, information from Phu Quoc Special Zone People's Committee (An Giang) said that a canoe capsizing incident had just occurred in the area, causing passengers and crew members to fall into the sea.
Initial information from the Phu Quoc special zone government said that the incident happened at about 1 pm on July 11.
At this time, the canoe numbered AG 26751 of Ocean Pear Island Company was carrying 32 tourists and 3 crew members moving from Hon May Rut back to An Thoi port. When just leaving Hon May Rut, about 400 meters away, the canoe suddenly encountered an incident and capsized, causing all passengers and crew members to fall into the sea.
Immediately after receiving the information, the leaders of the Phu Quoc special zone government quickly grasped the situation, directly directed functional forces to urgently coordinate with local people to approach the scene to rescue the victims. Thanks to timely rescue, 23 people were brought ashore and are receiving active medical support.
Currently, the special zone government is still continuing to direct forces to mobilize all means, race against time to search for the remaining victims, and at the same time direct specialized agencies to investigate and clarify the cause of this unfortunate incident.
Efforts to search for and support the injured tourists are still being coordinated at the highest level by functional agencies.
