On January 24, the Nguyen Van Linh - Nguyen Huu Tho intersection project (District 7) with a total investment of 830 billion VND was officially completed after many years of construction.
The two underpasses at this intersection were opened to traffic in October and December 2024, respectively, contributing to significantly reducing traffic congestion in the area.
In 2024, Rach Dia Bridge on Le Van Luong Street and Phuoc Long Bridge on Pham Huu Lau Street (connecting District 7 with Nha Be) will also be put into use, gradually completing the traffic network in the South of Ho Chi Minh City.
According to Mr. Luong Minh Phuc - Director of the Management Board of Investment and Construction of Traffic Works in Ho Chi Minh City, traffic pressure in the South is very large because this area is both connected to many seaports and has rapid urban development.
Hundreds of new apartment buildings have sprung up in recent years, leading to increasing travel demand, creating serious traffic congestion.
To solve this problem, Ho Chi Minh City is promoting the implementation of key transport infrastructure projects.
Mr. Luong Minh Phuc said that in 2025, Ho Chi Minh City plans to start construction of Nguyen Khoi bridge connecting District 4, District 7 and District 1 with a total capital of more than 3,700 billion VND.
When completed, the project will open a new connecting route, "sharing the load" with Nguyen Huu Tho Street and Kenh Te Bridge, reducing congestion in the southern area.
Another major project is upgrading the North-South axis road (Nguyen Huu Tho street) from Nguyen Van Linh intersection to Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway.
This route is 8.6 km long, including 7.8 km of elevated road with 4 lanes, combined with parallel road with 3 lanes on each side. The total investment of the project is 8,483 billion VND, implemented in the form of BOT (build - operate - transfer).
In addition, Thu Thiem 4 Bridge and Can Gio Bridge are also planned to start construction in 2025.
Thu Thiem 4 Bridge connects Thu Thiem New Urban Area (Thu Duc City) with District 7 across the Saigon River. The bridge is 2.16 km long, of which the main bridge is over 1.6 km, with a total estimated investment of over 6,000 billion VND.
When completed, Thu Thiem 4 Bridge will help shorten travel time between Thu Duc City, Binh Thanh and southern districts, reducing the load on existing routes such as Ton Duc Thang, Nguyen Tat Thanh, Khanh Hoi Bridge and Nguyen Van Linh.
The 7.3 km Can Gio Bridge with a total investment of over VND10,500 billion will replace the Binh Khanh ferry, creating a convenient traffic connection from Can Gio island district to the center of Ho Chi Minh City. The project also contributes to promoting the development of the coastal urban area and the Can Gio international transit port.
In addition, the Binh Tien bridge project is also being researched and implemented. The project is 3.6 km long, built entirely on high ground, 30 - 40 m wide, connecting District 6, District 8 and Binh Chanh District. The total investment is expected to be about 6,800 billion VND, implemented in the form of BOT.
When completed, Binh Tien bridge and road will create an additional connecting axis from the center of Ho Chi Minh City to Nguyen Van Linh Avenue, easily connecting with National Highway 50, National Highway 1, Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway and Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 3.
