The incident occurred at about 6 am on August 10, 2026 at Bau Pagoda (Phat Quang Tu), belonging to Lang Bau residential group, Vinh Phuc ward, Phu Tho province.
At about 7:30 am on the same day, Vinh Phuc Ward Police received a report from monk T.M. T, who is practicing at Bau Pagoda, about 5 monks in the pagoda being injured in the legs, arms and back.
At 7:47 AM, the Ward Police continued to receive a report from Ms. N.T. T. H (born in 1984, residing in Lang Bau residential group, Vinh Phuc ward) with similar content.
Through initial verification, Bau Pagoda, also known as Phat Quang Tu, is the regional headquarters area 2 of the Executive Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha of Phu Tho province.
The pagoda is presided over by Venerable Thich Thanh Lam, Standing Deputy Head of the Executive Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha of Phu Tho province.
According to functional agencies, on the morning of August 10, Venerable Thich Thanh Lam left the pagoda to attend the Congress of Delegates of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Phu Tho province, so he did not directly manage activities at the pagoda.
During this time, N.T. D (born in 2001, residing in Quang Hoi 1 hamlet, Van Thang commune, Khanh Hoa province) was identified as using a stick made of a branch to beat 5 peas.
D currently practices and becomes a monk at Bau Pagoda from February 2026 and is assigned to manage the daily life of the monks.
5 people were beaten including:
K.T. K (born in 2018, residing in Yen Lac commune, Phu Tho province), studied at Bau Pagoda from February 2026.
3 babies were born in 2019, 2016 and 2017 respectively, studying at Bau Pagoda from July 2024. One baby born in 2014, studied at Bau Pagoda from 2016. All 4 babies reside in Cong Hai commune, Khanh Hoa province.
According to the report, all 5 children have difficult family circumstances and were agreed by their families to reside at the pagoda for the purpose of becoming monks.
Initial results were determined, 5 children were scratched, with red marks on their legs, arms and back.
At the police headquarters, N.T. D confessed that the reason for beating the young men was that during management, these people did not listen and did not clean the rooms neatly and cleanly as required.
D said that because he was upset, he used a stick made of tree branches to beat 5 young men for deterrence.
The police agency seized the stick made of tree branches, which was identified as the tool D used to beat the children.
At the same time, functional agencies issued a decision to request injury assessment for the 5 young masters.
Currently, the police are preparing a file, waiting for the results of injury assessment to have a basis for considering and handling N.T. D according to the provisions of law.
