On April 26, Long An Provincial Police said that they had organized the collection of DNA samples of Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, mothers and relatives of unidentified martyrs in the province.
This is an activity to supplement the gene bank to serve the search and identification of martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the resistance wars, informed Lieutenant Colonel Truong Nhat Minh - Head of the Department of Administrative Management of Social Order Police, Long An Provincial Police.
"Accordingly, the police force organized the collection of DNA samples for 32 mothers and martyrs and 33 relatives of martyrs in districts, towns and cities in the province. For elderly cases, poor health or difficulty moving, the police force has arranged officers to go to their homes to support sample collection, said Lieutenant Colonel Truong Nhat Minh.

The DNA samples after being collected will be added to the national gene bank, thereby analyzing and comparing them with martyrs' remains that have been and are being searched for and collected nationwide. This is an important preparation step in the journey to identify thousands of missing martyrs, bringing hope to many families after many years of hoping to bring the heroes back to their homeland.
This meaningful activity shows the deep gratitude of the Party, State and People's Public Security Forces for those who sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland; at the same time, it is a practical gratitude to Vietnamese Heroic Mothers and relatives of martyrs in the province.
Previously, in October 2024, the People's Committee of Long An province issued a plan to collect DNA samples for relatives of unidentified martyrs in the province. The implementation period is in 2024 and 2025.
The Provincial People's Committee directs all levels and sectors to seriously implement and assign the Provincial Police to preside.
