On September 30, according to records at the scene and images provided by local people, many roads in Quy Chau commune (the mountainous area west of Nghe An province) were submerged, with floodwaters rising to the roofs of houses.
Many households had to move by boat, while some areas were completely isolated. People's crops and pets were severely damaged.
The authorities have urgently mobilized people and vehicles to deeply flooded areas to evacuate people from the danger zone.
Dozens of children and the elderly were taken to rescue boats and moved to safety. However, due to the rapid and sudden rise of floodwaters, rescue work encountered many difficulties.
Local people said that this flood was unprecedented and strong in many years, disrupting life and sweeping away property in just a few hours.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hoai - Secretary of the Party Committee of Quy Chau commune said that the water is rising, the locality is continuing to count the damage and deploy emergency support plans for affected households.
