As reported by Lao Dong Newspaper, the heavy rain lasted from the night of May 17 to the early morning of May 18, causing many areas in Bac Kan to be isolated.
In Dong Phuc and Yen Duong communes (Ba Be district), floodwaters suddenly overflowed overnight, leaving people unable to react and leaving behind serious consequences, killing 4 people, seriously affecting hundreds of houses and properties.

According to the reporter's records in mid-May 2025, at the scene, mud was still scattered all over the villages. Many houses were damaged, some places had mud spilling more than a meter high, and household items were buried or washed away.
In Tan Lu village (Dong Phuc commune), local forces and people are still coordinating to clear each block of mud and each tree blocking the road.
Ms. Ma Thi Duong's house was once covered in mud more than a meter thick after the flood. In the early days, all the entrances and exits were blocked, her family could only sit and watch.
"We could not move in the first few days, but thanks to the help of the authorities and people, we gradually pulled all the mud out, now my house has been cleaned and moved back to stay," said Ms. Duong.

Not only did the house damage, natural disasters also swept away many crops and people's property.
Nearly 400 hectares of rice and crops were buried and broken, many areas have reached harvest time. More than 16 hectares of aquaculture were affected, many ponds and lakes were devastated after the flood.
In many localities, irrigation systems and roads were seriously eroded, some places were completely washed away.
Inter-village and inter-commune roads are cut off, making it difficult to travel, transport goods and provide relief. The total estimated value of damage is about 97 billion VND.

Faced with the urgent situation, all levels and sectors of Bac Kan province mobilized machinery and thousands of people to urgently participate in overcoming the consequences.
Mr. Ma The Thieu - Acting Chairman of Yen Duong Commune People's Committee said: "As soon as there was information about the flood, we organized a search for missing people, evacuated people from the danger zone, and transported assets to a safe place.
Then continue to provide temporary food and drinking water, along with forces to clean up mud and repair damaged houses".
After many days of efforts, the cut routes have been temporarily reopened, creating conditions for people to travel. Households with severely damaged houses are provided with temporary accommodation and receive necessities and medicine.

The government is coordinating with organizations and businesses to mobilize resources to repair houses and guide people to convert crops to suit the conditions after natural disasters.
At a time when people in flooded areas were still struggling to overcome the damage, many units and organizations in neighboring provinces were present in time, supporting necessities, cash and household items.
In Bac Kan, a working group from Thai Nguyen and a number of businesses directly visited the affected areas, handing over relief goods to people.
According to Ms. Do Thi Minh Hoa - Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Bac Kan province, up to this point, the locality has received many support groups from inside and outside the province.
These contributions are considered a practical source of encouragement, helping people reduce difficulties and have more conditions to stabilize their lives and restore production after natural disasters.
