Over the past few days, thunderstorms have occurred in several provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta, causing rice crops in some areas to fall over.
In Tien Giang province, the impact of prolonged heavy rains has caused many rice fields of farmers to collapse. Faced with these disadvantages, farmers are actively taking advantage of the situation to bundle up rice.
Mr. Tran Cong Trai (residing in Go Cong Tay district, Tien Giang province) said that in the past few days, there has been continuous rain and thunderstorms. As a result, the rice fields of farmers in Go Cong Tay district have collapsed. To save the situation, farmers whose rice fields have collapsed have had to drain the water from the bottom of the fields and bundle the rice into clumps.
According to Mr. Soi, the most feared rice farmer is rice falling, if not forced to stand up like that, the rice cotton is flooded with water and will be damaged and sold.
Mr. Vo Van Chuc (residing in Thanh Nhut commune, Go Cong Tay district, Tien Giang province) said that he has an area of 2,000 m2 of rice. At present, the rice is more than 90 days old, and is about to be harvested, but in recent days, heavy rain combined with thunderstorms has caused the rice to fall.
“The area of fallen rice accounts for 50%. After draining the water from the field, the whole family went to the field to tie the rice into clumps so that the rice grains could dry out,” said Mr. Chuc.
Mr. Chuc said that his family's rice field was almost ready for harvest, so he was very worried. Seeing the rice fall over, he and his family quickly tied it up and stood it up, hoping to save it.
According to the report of Tien Giang Provincial People's Committee, the whole province has a rice planting area of 107,769 hectares, harvested 64,863 hectares, with an output of 436,022 tons, down 9.6% compared to the same period, with a yield of 67.2 quintals/hectare.
