On June 4, a large amount of water hyacinth and waste flooded into and covered the Bai Truoc beach area (Vung Tau ward, Ho Chi Minh City), affecting the environmental landscape and daily life of people and tourists.
Recorded at the scene, a large amount of water hyacinth and waste are floating on the water surface in the near-shore area. At the same time, due to the impact of high tides and strong winds, waves also pushed a large amount of water hyacinth and waste to the coastal park.
Faced with that situation, Vung Tau Urban Works and Environment Services Joint Stock Company (VESCO) mobilized many workers, machinery and equipment to organize the collection and cleaning of the park and beach. It is estimated that in the afternoon of June 4, about 20 tons of water hyacinth and waste were collected.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Hau - Deputy General Director of VESCO - said that this phenomenon usually starts to appear at the end of May, early June every year, a short time after heavy rains. However, in recent years, the amount of water hyacinth and waste appearing has tended to increase sharply in both scale and frequency.
It is expected that in the coming days, water hyacinth and waste from the ocean will continue to increase sharply, covering many places in the coastal area of Vung Tau. Although functional units are making efforts to collect and treat, the situation of ocean waste and water hyacinth is still a major challenge for marine environmental protection in Vung Tau, especially during the peak summer tourist season.
