On March 22, in an exchange with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, a representative of the leaders of Dong Quang Ward People's Committee, Thanh Hoa province, said that up to now (after nearly 1 month), the waste treatment plant at Dong Nam landfill has not been able to receive more waste for treatment.

The reason is that Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee has not yet issued a document approving the factory to resume receiving waste because it does not meet the conditions, including the fact that the amount of residual waste in the factory has not been completely treated" - a representative of Dong Quang Ward People's Committee informed.
Also according to this representative, the treatment of accumulated waste at this factory is somewhat slow to date, because it has been almost 1 month since the temporary suspension, the factory has not finished treatment, while the amount of accumulated waste compared to the factory's capacity does not require such a long time.
Currently, the amount of domestic waste generated daily in 7 central wards of Thanh Hoa province is still being transported to some collection and treatment points in other localities.
According to a representative of Ecotech Environmental Technology Investment and Development Joint Stock Company - the operator of the Southeast waste treatment plant - the plant is currently treating about 2,000 tons of accumulated waste.
Recently, at a meeting with provincial leaders and departments and branches, the company committed that by March 31, it will handle the amount of accumulated waste for functional agencies to inspect, and soon allow the factory to resume operation to collect and treat waste" - the factory representative said.
Previously, as Lao Dong Newspaper reported, in the early days of the 2026 Lunar New Year, in the central wards of Thanh Hoa province such as Hac Thanh, Ham Rong, Dong Quang, Dong Son, Dong Tien, Nguyet Vien, Quang Phu, there was a situation of household waste accumulating and piling up on many roads.
The cause was determined to be the sudden increase in garbage during Tet. In addition, some residents of Dong Quang ward did not allow garbage trucks to enter the Southeast landfill area due to concerns about overload and pollution.
People setting up camps and preventing garbage trucks from entering the treatment plant took place for many days. After that, thanks to propaganda and mobilization by functional agencies and local authorities, people dismantled camps and no longer focused on preventing garbage trucks.
However, in the following days, although people no longer stopped garbage trucks from entering the Southeast landfill, the factory still could not receive more garbage due to the large amount of accumulated garbage that had not been completely treated.
