In the last days of the Year of the Snake, returning to Viet Hong commune, Lao Cai province, many people almost do not realize that this is the ruined place after the historic flash flood due to the impact of storm No. 10 in October 2025.
New, more spacious and solid houses are springing up; fields are covered with a lush green color; people are busy decorating and cleaning houses to prepare for Tet.


Walking on the road leading to Ban Na, although traces of the historic flood still remain somewhere, the new face, new vitality has strongly taken root and spread throughout the villages.
While busy sweeping the house, Ms. Ha Thi Nhuan (in Ban Na, Viet Hong commune) said: The family is in the area of urgent relocation, with the support of all levels of government, now there is a new house, the whole family is celebrating a warm and safe Tet.
According to Ms. Nhuan, initially she was very worried about whether she could complete the house before the Lunar New Year, but the local government mobilized regular forces to support the construction of new houses.
I am really touched to celebrate Tet in the new house, especially the house built from the consensus, help, and support of all levels, authorities and all people," Ms. Nhuan choked up.


Like Ms. Nhuan, in Viet Hong commune, many houses have been and are busy building new houses, celebrating the first home, and on everyone's faces are visible joy and radiance when having a new house to celebrate Tet.
Ms. Ha Thi Khang (in Ban Na, Viet Hong commune) confided: "Thanks to the concern and help of all levels and sectors, people have a new home before the traditional Tet holiday. People are very excited and grateful to the Party and State for supporting them to have the belief to recover after the natural disaster.
Now there are new houses, people can feel secure living and working, no longer worrying every time it rains heavily, floods come or landslides like before".

Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Tien Chien - Chairman of Viet Hong Commune People's Committee said: "Regarding storm No. 10 alone, the whole commune has nearly 290 houses affected. Among them, 2 houses were completely collapsed, and 42 households had to be urgently relocated because their houses in dangerous landslide areas.
After the natural disaster, 35 houses have been started to be built (9 households have requested to self-repair and stabilize on the spot). To date, all houses have been completed, and people have moved in.
