When girls become items to buy and sell
Most recently, at the end of the trial on December 11, the Hanoi People's Court sentenced Nguyen Van Lam (37 years old) to 16 years in prison for the crime of "Trafficking in person; Trafficking in person under 16 years old".
According to the accusation, around the beginning of 2021, Lam opened a NewWorld Karaoke bar in Hop Hoa town, Tam Duong district, Vinh Phuc province (old). Around May 2022, the defendant hired Trinh Thi Nhu (24 years old) and Tran Dai Ka (26 years old) as managers.
To "attract" customers to sing to increase their income, Lam and Ka went to groups on Facebook to search, hire or buy young women to work as restaurant staff. These employees are allowed to dress sexy to serve beer and choose songs for customers in the singing rooms.
Because some employees were unattractive in appearance or were not chosen by customers to sing together, Lam, Ka and Nhu sold them to Nguyen Dinh Ty (48 years old) - the owner of the Royal Karaoke bar in Hoai Duc district (old), Hanoi.
According to the records, in mid-May 2023, Lam and Ka bought Ms. H (23 years old) from an unknown man at a karaoke bar in Hai Duong City (old) for 20 million VND, then brought her to the karaoke bar and gave it to Ka and Nhu to manage.
When she returned to work as an employee for Karaoke NewWorld, Ms. H could not work and was not chosen by customers to sing with her, so Lam directed Ka to sell the victim to another karaoke bar. At the same time, Ty contacted Ka to ask to buy female employees.
On May 21, 2023, Ty took a taxi to where Ka was picking up Ms. H and transferred 25 million VND to buy this girl. After selling to Ms. H, Nhu gave Ka 1 million VND and informed Lam, then transferred 20 million VND to Lam. Nhu used the remaining money to spend on the restaurant.
According to the accusation, around the end of May 2023, Lam and Ka bought a girl named L (at that time under 16 years old) from an unknown man, the owner of a karaoke bar, for 18 million VND.
Because L's appearance was not popular, Lam told Ka to sell the victim to Ty for 19 million VND.
When the case was discovered, Lam fled. At the end of April 2025, Ty was sentenced by the Hanoi People's Court to 22 years in prison for the above two crimes; 16 years in prison for the above two crimes; As of 6 years in prison for the crime of "Trafficking in person".
