On the afternoon of June 12, monitoring satellite cloud images, weather radar and lightning positioning showed that convective cloud areas are developing strongly, causing showers with thunderstorms and lightning in many areas in Ho Chi Minh City and some neighboring localities.
Areas experiencing thunderstorms include Binh Hung Hoa, Trung My Tay, Phu Thanh, Binh Tri Dong, Bay Hien, Hoa Binh, Minh Phung, Phu Tho Hoa, Phu Lam, Phu Tho, Tan Khanh wards and Xuan Son and Binh Gia communes.
In the next 3 hours, convective clouds will continue to develop, causing showers and thunderstorms in the above areas, and are likely to expand to the wards of Tan Son Nhat, Nhieu Loc, Tay Thanh, Cho Lon, An Lac, Binh Tan, Duc Nhuan, Cau Kieu, Tan Son Hoa, Ban Co, Saigon, Binh Duong, Thuan Giao, Phu Loi and Ba Diem commune.
Common rainfall is from 5-10 mm, in some places over 15 mm. During thunderstorms, it is necessary to watch out for tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind at level 5-7.
The meteorological agency said that the weather pattern causing rain is mainly due to a low pressure trough with its axis through the North Central region combined with the Southwest monsoon operating at a weak to moderate intensity. Above, the subtropical high pressure has its axis passing through the Central region.
Forecast for the next 24-48 hours, a low pressure trough connecting to the hot low pressure area in the West will continue to develop and shift, while the Southwest monsoon will maintain a weak to moderate intensity. From now until about June 20, thunderstorms in the South will tend to increase.
People need to be wary of accompanying extreme weather phenomena such as tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind. Localized heavy rain can cause flooding in low-lying areas, affecting traffic, living, agricultural production and increasing the risk of fallen trees and damage to infrastructure.
