Rainstorms knock down houses, schools, causing great damage in Lao Cai

Lao Cai - Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms from the night of August 25 to the morning of August 27 occurred in 12 communes and wards, causing 147 houses to have their roofs blown off and damaged.

According to the Lao Cai Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, thunderstorms caused 147 houses in 10 communes and wards to have their roofs blown off and damaged. In Thuong Ha commune, 2 people were injured and had to be hospitalized for emergency treatment.

Many livestock barns of people have also had their roofs blown off and damaged, concentrated in Thuong Ha and Duong Quy communes.

The thunderstorm also caused damage to more than 143.6 hectares of agricultural crops, including about 76 hectares of summer rice in Cau Thia ward that are preparing for harvest. In addition, about 56.4 hectares of planted forest were affected and 20 poultry died due to flooding.

Heavy rain also caused landslides, mud and soil spilled onto National Highway 279, passing through Duong Quy commune, causing local traffic congestion.

In Thuong Ha and Trinh Tuong communes, some school items were damaged. The civil power system in Tram Tau commune was also knocked down by thunderstorms, affecting people's lives.

Total damage to facilities and housing caused by the thunderstorm is estimated at nearly 7.5 billion VND.

Immediately after the natural disaster occurred, local authorities mobilized police, militia and people to support taking the injured to the emergency room, repairing houses, barns and damaged structures.

Currently, functional forces are handling landslide points, clearing traffic, and at the same time supporting people to overcome damage and soon stabilize their lives.
