On February 24, the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and Rescue of Phu Yen province issued a quick report on the implementation of response work to heavy rain, floods, and inundation in the province.

According to the report, heavy rains that have lasted from February 22 to now have caused water levels on rivers in Phu Yen province to rise, causing many rice and crop areas of the people to be deeply flooded, causing significant damage. Of which, the Winter-Spring rice crop in Tay Hoa, Phu Hoa, Tuy An districts and Dong Hoa town was flooded and damaged for more than 3,000 hectares; crops and other annual crops ( cassava) were flooded and damaged for about 1,250 hectares.

By the morning of February 24, the water level on the rivers in the province had fluctuated. In particular, the water level of Ban Thach River is below alert level 2. It is forecasted that in the next 6-12 hours, floods on Ban Thach rivers may rise to approximately level 2.
In Tay Hoa district, many rice and cassava areas of people in Hoa Thinh, Hoa My Dong, Hoa My Tay communes... were deeply flooded. In many fields, rice plants were deeply submerged in water.

Nearly 0.3 hectares of rice are in the growing and about to bloom stage and are flooded. Ms. Tran Thi Phoi (residing in Hoa My Dong commune, Tay Hoa district) worried: "Up to now, there has never been such a flood in January. Flooding of rice in the flowering stage will greatly affect rice productivity. Flooding like that will probably destroy all the rice".
Similarly, the prolonged heavy rain caused nearly 0.35 hectares of cassava and 0.2 hectares of rice fields of Mr. Phan Van Thang (residing in Hoa Thinh commune) to be flooded, causing heavy damage. Mr. Thang said that this is the first year that heavy rain caused flooding in January, damaging crops. Flooded rice will reduce productivity, while flooded cassava will completely die.

"The crops were submerged in water and were damaged. I just hope that all levels and sectors have a plan to support people with colorful flower varieties to sow and replant," Mr. Thang expressed.
According to the People's Committee of Tay Hoa district, heavy rain caused nearly 2,500 hectares of crops to be flooded, causing an estimated loss of more than 9 billion VND. Of which, 1,246 hectares of rice and 1,252 hectares of cassava were flooded.
The Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and Rescue of Phu Yen province requires localities, agencies and units involved to proactively deploy response plans for heavy rain, floods and inundation in a timely manner in accordance with the actual situation, especially localities along the river.
