On the afternoon of September 22, in an exchange with Lao Dong Newspaper, leaders of Quy Nhon Tay ward (Gia Lai) said that heavy rain caused the underground spillway in area 6 of the ward to be locally flooded.
The locality has placed warning signs and assigned forces to be on duty at the spillway, preventing people and vehicles from passing through the flooded area to ensure safety.
According to the leader of Quy Nhon Tay ward, this spillway is often locally flooded every time heavy rain occurs.
Mr. Nguyen Minh Hoang (born 1975, residing in Quy Nhon Tay ward) said that on the evening of September 21, the spillway in area 6 was flooded after many days of heavy rain.
This place is flooded every time it rains heavily. I have work going through there but I can't go because the water is nearly a meter deep. People also don't dare to pass by," Mr. Hoang said.
Previously, on the same morning, in the Mong Cam slope area (neighborhood 15) and National Highway 1D (section passing through neighborhood 16), Quy Nhon Nam ward, a landslide occurred after heavy rain.
On Le Cong Mien street, a large volume of soil and rocks from the embankment spilled down, stretching more than ten meters. Soil and rocks covered a part of the road surface, making it impossible for vehicles to circulate.
Quy Nhon Nam ward authorities and functional forces have blockaded landslide locations, cleared soil and rocks overflowing into the road, cleared the ditch line silted up by soil and rocks, and prevented people and vehicles from moving through the dangerous area.
According to the forecast of Gia Lai Provincial Hydrometeorological Station, from September 22 to 24, the eastern area of the province will have moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms, common rainfall of 50-120mm, in some places over 150mm. The western area of the province will have showers and thunderstorms, locally heavy rain, common rainfall of 20-40mm, in some places over 50mm.
From early morning on September 24 to 25, the eastern region will continue to have rain in many places, with moderate to heavy rain in some places, common rainfall of 40-70mm, in some places over 100mm.
