At noon on September 22, in an exchange with Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Dang Manh Cuong - Secretary of the Party Committee of Quy Nhon Nam ward (Gia Lai) - said that landslides occurred in Mong Cam slope (neighborhood 15) and National Highway 1D, the section passing through neighborhood 16 after heavy rain.
The locality has coordinated with functional forces to blockade landslide locations, clear soil and rocks overflowing into the road, clear ditches filled with soil and rocks, and prevent people and vehicles from moving through dangerous areas.
On Le Cong Mien street, a large volume of soil and rocks from the embankment spilled down, stretching more than ten meters. Soil and rocks covered a part of the road surface, making it impossible for vehicles to circulate.
Mr. Mai Kim Bang (48 years old, residing in Quy Nhon Nam ward) said that on the evening of September 21, soil and rocks began to landslide onto the road after heavy rain. This area had experienced landslides in the previous rainy season, so people living around were always worried.
Previously, on the evening of November 18, 2025, also at this location, Lao Dong Newspaper recorded the situation of soil and rock from Xuan Van mountain continuously sliding and overflowing into residential areas. Some households had to evacuate overnight.
According to the forecast of Gia Lai Provincial Hydrometeorological Station, from early morning on September 22 to 24, the eastern area of the province will have moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms, common rainfall of 50-120mm, in some places over 150mm.
The western area of the province has showers and thunderstorms, locally heavy rain, common rainfall of 20-40mm, in some places over 50mm. The meteorological agency warns of the risk of heavy rain in a short time.
From early morning on September 24 to 25, the eastern region will continue to have rain in many places, with moderate to heavy rain in some places, common rainfall of 40-70mm, in some places over 100mm.
Heavy rain is likely to cause flooding in low-lying areas, and at the same time increase the risk of landslides in steep terrain areas with weak geological foundations. Thunderstorms accompanied by tornadoes, lightning, and strong winds can cause roofs to be blown off, trees to be broken, and affect people and livestock.
