On the morning of September 16, information from the authorities of mountainous communes in Thanh Hoa province said that heavy rain lasting from the night of September 15 to the morning of the same day caused landslides on many traffic routes, causing some areas to be cut off or travel difficulties.
In Trung Ha commune, a large amount of soil and rock continues to landslide on National Highway 217, Km130 area through Loc Tong village, causing traffic through this area to be cut off.
According to the People's Committee of Trung Ha commune, this is a landslide point that has appeared since August. Up to now, this location has not been thoroughly repaired, while heavy rain has continuously caused soil and rock from the positive slope to continue sliding down, covering the road surface.
Faced with the above situation, local authorities recommend that people limit passing through the area when there is no necessary work.
People who need to move to the communes above can temporarily follow the roundabout route through Tong village - old Lam village bridge. However, this bridge only allows motorized vehicles with a load capacity of less than 2.5 tons to circulate.
Not only National Highway 217, in Trung Ha commune, heavy rain also caused landslides of positive slopes on road 530 to Thien Phu, the section passing through De Phong village. Soil and rocks from the mountainside slid down, affecting travel and posing a potential risk of further landslides if the rain lasts.
Notably, in Loc Tong village, soil and large blocks of rock also slid down into the residential area.
Two households, Mr. Vi Van Hoi and Vi Van Dai, were affected, including a large block of rock falling into their houses. The Trung Ha commune government has mobilized forces to support people to move people and property out of the dangerous area.
Landslides and flooding of spillways also occurred in some other mountainous localities of Thanh Hoa.
In Dong Luong commune, water in the Tan Thuy spillway area, Tan Lap village, on the road to Van Phu commune rose, causing difficulties for people and vehicles to travel.
Also in Tan Lap village, the Na Nieng hill area on road 530B from Dong Luong to Van Phu, a positive taluy landslide occurred. A quantity of soil, rocks, and trees from the hillside spilled onto the road surface, affecting traffic.
Meanwhile, on the morning of September 16, in Cat village, Nhi Son commune, heavy rain caused landslides on National Highway 15. A large amount of mud and soil spilled onto the road surface, causing traffic through the area to be blocked.
Nhi Son commune authorities have deployed guards, temporarily preventing people and vehicles from approaching the landslide location to ensure safety.
The locality also coordinates with the road management unit to implement a remedial plan, initially finding ways to create a way for motorbikes to circulate when safety conditions permit.
The landslide occurred in the context of Thanh Hoa continuing to have heavy rain. According to information from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from 7 pm on September 15 to 3 am on September 16, Thanh Tan station (Thanh Hoa) recorded rainfall of 138mm.
The meteorological agency forecasts that from September 16 to September 17, Thanh Hoa and some Northern and North Central provinces will continue to have heavy to very heavy rain, with common rainfall from 70-170mm, locally over 250mm; and warns of the possibility of heavy rain intensity over 100mm in 3 hours.
By 7:38 am on September 16, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting continued to issue warnings of the risk of flash floods, landslides, and subsidence due to rain, floods, or currents for Thanh Hoa and some provinces and cities.
Faced with the complicated developments of heavy rain, local authorities in mountainous areas are strengthening inspections of areas at risk of landslides, underground spillways, river and stream roads; arranging guard forces at unsafe locations.
Functional agencies recommend that people not arbitrarily pass through underground and overflows when the water is rising; do not approach areas where landslides have occurred or mountain slopes showing signs of cracks and landslides and comply with the instructions of functional forces.
