Ho Chi Minh City - The prolonged heavy rain on the evening of September 18th caused a series of roads to be deeply flooded.

Recorded on the evening of September 18, many roads in Ho Chi Minh City such as Le Van Viet, Nguyen Van Huong, Linh Dong, Ly Te Xuyen, To Ngoc Van... (belonging to the old Thu Duc district area) were flooded due to prolonged heavy rain.

Until after 8 pm on the same day, the water still showed no signs of receding, causing traffic through these areas to fall into chaos.

At deep flooded points on Le Van Viet and To Ngoc Van streets, a series of motorbikes stalled, leading each other in a row. Many vehicle drivers had to climb onto the sidewalk or struggle to grope around moving little by little to avoid dangerous subsidence and deep holes.

It rained heavily right at the time I was off work, so I couldn't avoid it, the water was nearly half a wheel deep, causing my car to stall in the middle of the road. Walking a long distance in the rain was both tiring and dangerous because I couldn't see potholes or sewer mouths below" - Ms. Le Hai Yen (resident of Linh Dong ward) said.

In deeply flooded road areas, every time a truck or large car passes by, the rising "water waves" flood directly into people's houses on both sides of the road. People must urgently use planks and tarpaulins to cover in front of their doors and continuously push water and scoop water out to minimize property damage.

Every time it rains heavily for a long time, water floods straight into the house. Although it has been blocked in front of the door, every time a large car drives through creating waves, water rushes in" - Mr. Nguyen Hoang Tuan (living on Ly Te Xuyen street) said.

According to the Southern Hydrometeorological Station, monitoring on satellite cloud images, weather radar images and lightning positioning shows that convective clouds are developing and causing rain with thunderstorms and lightning throughout neighborhoods, groups, hamlets, villages... belonging to wards/communes such as Ben Thanh, Cho Quan, Tan My, Phu Dinh, Dong Hung Thuan...

In the next 3 hours, convective clouds will continue to develop, causing showers, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in the entire neighborhood, group, hamlet, village,... belonging to the above wards/communes, then expanding to the whole city. Common rainfall is from 20-40 mm, in some places over 60 mm. In thunderstorms, beware of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind of about level 5-7 (8-17 m/s), heavy rain causing localized flooding.

The weather pattern causing thunderstorms is due to the tropical convergence zone with its axis through the South Central Coast and the South increasingly operating strongly, tending to lower its axis to the South. Southwest monsoon in the South has weak to moderate intensity. Above, the subtropical high pressure in the North branch continues to encroach westward. Wind convergence is strongly operating in the South.

Towards the people affected by floods

In recent days, prolonged heavy rain has caused heavy damage to people and property, pushing many families in many localities across the country into extremely difficult circumstances.
