Southern region continues to welcome an increase in thunderstorms

Rainstorms in the South are forecast to increase again from around August 26, accompanied by the risk of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind.

In the next 24-48 hours, the intertropical convergence zone will have its axis through the North and North Central regions, connected to the storm. Southwest monsoon is operating at medium to strong intensity. The northern branch of the subtropical high pressure tends to encroach westward. Upper-level wind convergence in the Southern region is operating better.

In the next 3 to 10 days, the intertropical convergence zone will have its axis through the North and is likely to be more active around August 30 and 31. Southwest monsoons will maintain moderate to strong intensity. The northern branch of the subtropical high pressure is relatively stable, tending to encroach westward on August 24 and 25. Upper-level wind convergence continues to be maintained over the Southern region.

Therefore, the weather in the South in the coming days will be generally cloudy, with showers and thunderstorms in some places; especially in the late afternoon and evening, there will be scattered showers, with thunderstorms in some places. From around August 26th, thunderstorms will tend to increase again.

During thunderstorms, people need to be wary of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind, which can cause trees to fall, damage houses, traffic works and infrastructure, and affect agricultural production.

Heavy rain can also cause localized flooding, traffic congestion, affecting production, daily life and crops.
