On the morning of September 10, the Provincial People's Committee held a meeting to deploy solutions to respond to flooding caused by prolonged heavy rains due to the influence of storm No. 3.
According to a quick report at the meeting, on the night of September 9 and early morning of September 10, Nam Dinh province experienced prolonged heavy rain. The rainfall measured from 10pm on September 9 to 7am on September 10 was about 270mm.
It is forecasted that in the next few days, Nam Dinh province will continue to have heavy rain with rainfall of about 200-270mm. Prolonged heavy rain along with hydroelectric dams releasing floodwaters will cause water levels on rivers to rise...
In Ý Yên district, due to the rising flood water on the Day River, there was a phenomenon of dike seepage in Yen Bang commune. The locality has mobilized forces and materials on the spot to handle the situation; continue to direct localities to monitor and detect the phenomenon of dike leakage and seepage to handle it promptly and prevent overflow. Ý Yên district has issued a notice on the plan to evacuate people from the affected areas when ordered by competent authorities...
In Nam Truc district, due to rising floods on the Red and Dao rivers, the district has evacuated 100 people living in the affected areas to safe shelters; and is preparing plans to evacuate about 600 people in the affected areas.
In Nam Dinh city, on the night of September 9, households living on the 2nd and 3rd floors of dangerous housing areas on Hoang Van Thu street were evacuated to a safe place.
Speaking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung - Chairman of Nam Dinh City People's Committee said that by noon today (September 10), the flooding problem of roads in Nam Dinh City has been basically resolved, some roads have resumed operation. The city government is making every effort to resolve the flooding problem this afternoon, the two pumping stations Kenh Gia and Quan Chuot are operating at maximum capacity to pump water.
"As for My Tan commune, the local government has made a plan, some elderly people, children, and pregnant women were moved to a safe place first. In many remote areas, people have also proactively moved to a safe place upon receiving information from the local government," said Mr. Dung.
Also this morning (September 10), in My Tan commune (Nam Dinh city), leaders of Nam Dinh provincial People's Committee directly came to meet and discuss and develop scenarios and plans at each level to ensure safety for 600 people in this commune.
