On February 18, Kien Giang Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Tien Hai, Chairman of Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Nhan and the provincial working delegation had a working trip to Phu Quoc City. The delegation surveyed many key projects, including the Duong Dong reservoir project.
According to the report of Phu Quoc City People's Committee, Duong Dong reservoir was invested in since 2002, with a basin area of 19.85km2 and a capacity of 3 million m3. The project has undergone 2 upgrades in 2013 and 2022, bringing the total useful capacity to more than 5.9 million m3.
As of February 11, the lake's water level reached +25.34m, with a total capacity of 4.49 million m3, of which the useful capacity was 3.98 million m3, and water could be provided for the next 162 days. Currently, there is enough water to serve 13,710 households, with a water loss rate of less than 13%.
It is expected that by the end of the first quarter of 2025, the capacity of the water plant will increase to 27,000 m3/day and night after completing the new treatment cluster.
According to the general planning project for the construction of Phu Quoc City, the locality must build 5 freshwater reservoirs including: Duong Dong, Cua Can, Rach Tram, Rach Ca, Suoi Lon with a capacity of about 27 million m3.
Mr. Le Quoc Anh - Secretary of Phu Quoc City Party Committee - said that the locality has proposed the Provincial People's Committee to soon approve the investment policy for an additional Suoi Lon reservoir of 4 million m3 and a suspended lake on the head of Cua Can reservoir with a capacity of about 8 million m3 to ensure the local water needs in the coming time.
