From January 25 to February 2 (from the 26th of Tet to the 5th of Tet), Phu Quoc International Airport (Kien Giang) served more than 1,000 incoming and outgoing flights with a huge number of international passengers.
During Tet, the port operates at full capacity to serve domestic and foreign tourists visiting the pearl island. Flights to Phu Quoc during Tet are mainly from Taiwan (China), South Korea, China, Kazakhstan, Poland, Mongolia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Singapore on regular or charter flights.
On January 28 alone (29th of Lunar New Year), Phu Quoc welcomed more than 16,000 Chinese visitors to celebrate Tet. On the first day of Lunar New Year, the number of flights reached its highest with 131 departures and arrivals.
According to Mr. Bui Quoc Thai - Director of Kien Giang Department of Tourism, from January 25 to February 2 (from the 26th of Tet to the 5th of Tet), the locality is estimated to welcome more than 471,000 visitors, an increase of 19.9% over the same period. Of which, international visitors reached more than 76,600, an increase of 29.3% over the same period; total revenue from tourism reached nearly 1,890 billion VND, an increase of 49.5% over the same period; average room occupancy rate reached 73.4%, an increase of 10.6% over the same period.
Phu Quoc City alone is estimated to welcome more than 281,000 visitors, up 26.9% over the same period. Of which, international visitors are nearly 75,000, up 30.2% over the same period.
To prepare for Tet, the Department of Tourism has issued a plan to direct and assign specific tasks, arrange civil servants, employees and department leaders to be on duty every day during Tet; arrange civil servants to be on duty at units to provide information and make quick reports to proactively handle arising issues.
Coordinate well with relevant agencies and units to issue documents directing key tourist areas, Tourism Associations, tourist areas/destinations, tourism businesses in the province to ensure service quality, price listing; ensure fire prevention and fighting safety; ensure food hygiene and safety; traffic safety, security and order at tourist areas/destinations, entertainment areas, and tourist transport vehicles. Do not let price increases, price gouging, or soliciting tourists negatively affect the tourism image of the locality; encourage the organization of special events to serve tourists to visit, have fun, and entertain during the Lunar New Year 2025.
