According to records, the section of National Highway 13 from Lai Thieu toll station to Vinh Binh bridge (belonging to Lai Thieu and Binh Hoa wards) is under construction to raise the roadbed.
Enterprises belonging to Becamex Group (the project investor) are focusing machinery and labor to carry out the roadbed construction item. Stones are transported to the construction site, machinery is mobilized to level and raise the road surface. The nearly 1km long section has been filled with stone, compacted, creating a new roadbed about 1m high compared to the old road surface. The lanes adjacent to the median strip are starting to be asphalted.
The road section being elevated has a length of about 3 km in the direction of traffic from Binh Duong area to the center of Ho Chi Minh City. This is a section with a large volume of vehicles, connecting the northern area of Ho Chi Minh City with the city center and surrounding areas.
Real-world records show that this road section runs parallel to the Saigon River, the old roadbed is low, affected by the Saigon River tide or flooded when it rains heavily. Every time the road is locally flooded, prolonged traffic jams often occur.
Elevating the roadbed is considered one of the solutions to limit water overflow and stagnation on National Highway 13 when heavy rain or high tide occurs. When completed, this item is expected to contribute to improving traffic, reducing the risk of localized flooding and traffic congestion through here.
Meanwhile, in the opposite direction is the construction site of the National Highway 13 expansion project. About 3 km has completed the stone pouring to raise the roadbed. Currently, the construction unit is completing the asphalt paving and sidewalk construction.
It is known that the project to upgrade and expand National Highway 13 from 6 to 8 lanes section passing through Binh Duong (formerly) started in early 2022 with a total investment of 6,255 billion VND. The project is about 15km long and is being expanded from the center of Ho Chi Minh City to Thu Dau Mot ward. Of which about 12 km is only widening lanes and not raising the foundation, 3 km is both raising the foundation and expanding. Currently, the project has reached about 80% of the construction volume. It is expected that in 2026, the project will be completed and put into use.
