National Highway 13 is one of the arterial roads at the northern gateway of Ho Chi Minh City. This road has a large traffic volume, especially when people start moving back to their hometowns and traveling before the National Day holiday on September 2nd.
The section under construction for the National Highway 13 upgrade and expansion project from the Ong Bo bridge intersection to Vinh Binh bridge is about 5 km long and many sections are congested.
According to reporters' records, at noon on August 29, on National Highway 13 (direction from Binh Duong to the center of Ho Chi Minh City), the section from Lai Thieu toll station to Vinh Binh bridge, the traffic volume was large, and vehicles moved slowly.
Notably, this section is under construction for the National Highway 13 upgrade and expansion project, so the road surface is not flat. Vehicles are guided to circulate on 2 lanes towards the center of Ho Chi Minh City.
In the opposite direction, the flow of vehicles from the center of Ho Chi Minh City towards Binh Phuoc to go to the Central Highlands is more crowded. The section through Lai Thieu toll station is being constructed, so the traffic lane is narrowed.
The section near the Ong Bo bridge intersection is more seriously congested. The number of cars and motorbikes pouring in is large, the road surface becomes narrow. Vehicles move slowly, moving little by little. The congestion situation stretches nearly 2km on National Highway 13.
I see that congestion in this area often occurs during peak hours. Today, the first day of the holiday, the number of vehicles moving is higher, so the traffic situation is also more prolonged. Besides, the road surface is under construction and narrowed, making the traffic jam situation during peak hours more serious" - Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hai (42 years old, residing in Lai Thieu ward) shared.
Not only National Highway 13, the beginning of DT 743B road (intersecting with National Highway 13) is also congested for a long time. Cars line up in a row, moving little by little to pass through the toll station at the beginning of DT 743B road.
It is expected that in the coming days, the number of vehicles leaving Ho Chi Minh City for holidays will continue to increase. People when traveling through National Highway 13 need to be proactive in time, comply with traffic diversion instructions at the construction site area and maintain a safe distance to limit the risk of collisions.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction, during the National Day holiday of September 2nd, the department will strengthen coordination with units to inspect and ensure traffic safety on National Highway 13. Review to ensure safety conditions of works, traffic infrastructure, urge investors to focus on accelerating construction progress, ensuring traffic on the route.
The Department of Construction has also requested a company under Becamex Group (the investor of the project to upgrade and expand National Highway 13 section passing through old Binh Duong) to coordinate and promptly have a plan to regulate traffic on National Highway 13 when congestion occurs.
